Within the last year, another study published by the Archives of Internal Medicine documented an increase from 1997 to 2005 in skin and soft-tissue infections and antibiotics recommended for community-acquired MRSA (Hersh, Chambers, Maselli and Gonzales, 2008). Referred to as the superbug, MRSA is a strain of bacteria that is resistant to most common antibiotics and has been found in hospitals and schools nationwide. MRSA has the ability to cause infections in different parts of the body and the skin.
