Animal Friendly Company Looks For Ways To Be Greener
In an answer to recent public outcry, privately owned, organic and vegan cosmetic company Gourmet Body treats has pledged only to use sustainable ingredients in its products and packaging.
Austin, TX., September 18, 2007 /SOAPWIRE/ -- On Friday, September 7, 2007 Gourmet Body Treats was challenged by a group of it's customers to take a moral stand, and go a step further towards being green. Gourmet Body Treats currently uses only post-consumer recycled paper in all of it's facility's, along with several other energy saving practices. The challenge is to use only sustainable ingredients in both product and packaging.They've set a deadline for them selves to meet this challenge for early this coming year. This is unprecedented in the cosmetic industry, and would be yet another way that the company has set a bench mark in ethics for the field.
A company spokesman was quoted as saying "Our customers want us to do more, and to be honest; I guess there's more for us to do! Our goal like in any company is to be successful, but not at the price of our morals. That's kind of a give in though, we're a morals driven company!"
Gourmet Body Treats has made this pledge at a time when several companies have stepped into the realm of the ecologically friendly. The company already uses local growers when possible and is listed on the web site www.cosmeticdatabase.com as being very safe for skin by any standards. In addition to this they do not test on animals or use any animal based ingredients. Evelyn of Auburn, WA was quoted as saying "Thank you! I appreciate all you do to help women on something that the FDA won't even think about." in a letter to Gourmet Body Treats.
Some might argue that the fight to be environmentally friendly is pointless, that being "Green" isn't worth the time it takes to find the resources. When confronted with this point of view the company’s owner Waleska Agosto responded, "At the end of the day, hopefully we're doing things that make us feel better about the world we live in."
