EX•TRACTS Offers Special Features
- Seminars and Exhibit To Focus on Eco-Friendly Personal Care -
WHITE PLAINS, NY, August 6, 2007 /SOAPWIRE/ -- A series of special features – including educational seminars addressing “green” issues impacting the personal care industry, as well as complimentary breakfasts, massages and facial-lifts – will be offered at EX•TRACTS®: New discoveries in beauty and wellness, a market for 75 suppliers of personal care resources for spa, salon and specialty retail, Sunday, August 12, through Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at New York City’s Metropolitan Pavilion.
A new seminar, The Greening of Bodycare, will offer EX•TRACTS participants pertinent information about buying and selling organic products. Additionally, SustainAbility: design for a better world™, a curated exhibit and educational seminar, will showcase environmentally- and socially-responsible products and producers in EX•TRACTS and the co-located New York International Gift Fair®. Products from 13 EX•TRACTS exhibitors will be featured among nearly 200 green, global and ergonomic products displayed at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
“The personal care industry has been at the forefront of the ‘green’ movement, with its emphasis on natural and organic materials, environmentally-safe production and eco-friendly packaging, said Rita Malek, show manager “However, as ‘green’ has gone from grass-roots to mainstream, retailers and suppliers need to educate themselves in order to best serve today’s savvy consumers.”
The Greening of Bodycare program will offer an in-depth look at evolving organic body care standards. Moderator Tracy Sherwood, assistant editor of GCI (Global Cosmetic Industry) magazine, panelists Lisa Levin, CEO and founder of Pharmacopia (San Rafael, CA) and Giovanna Kupfer, artistic director and director of products, of Spa Ja (New York, NY), will offer tips for smartly selecting and selling natural and organic products, separating the authentic from the hype, and appealing to today's eco-aware consumers. This seminar takes place on Sunday, August 12, 3:30- 4:30pm at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Tickets are $20 advance/$25 onsite.
As an extension of this, the SustainAbility: design for a better world exhibit, will showcase some 200 socially-responsible products from 100 suppliers whose materials or production processes are environmentally-friendly, and whose corporate philosophies are socially responsible, philanthropic or fair-trade oriented. Participating EX•TRACTS exhibitors are: Beauty Bureau; Berber Sources Moroccan Beauty; Body Bumps; Buddha Nose; Erbaviva; Jimmy Belasco Soy Candles; Lux Brands International; Om Aroma & Co.; Pharmacopia; Pure Enchantment; The Savannah Bee Company; She Essential Beauty; and Xiri Company.
A seminar, also titled “SustainAbility: design for a better world, will address how socially responsible design can be commercially viable for designers, manufacturers, retailers and consumers alike. Susan S. Szenasy, editor of Metropolis, will lead panelists in a discussion of green products, fair trade practices and ergonomic design that are making a difference while still maintaining a competitive edge. This program takes place Monday, August 13, from 2:00 – 3:30pm at the Javits Center, Room 1A02-03. Tickets are $20 advance/$25 onsite.
EX•TRACTS educational offerings will extend beyond “green” issues, to also address broad retail techniques. A three-part Retail Success Series will address sales, service and staffing on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of the Show. Daniel Abramson of Staff Dynamics will cover selling and communicating with different personality types, secrets of hiring top talent, and improving customer service. Individual tickets are $20 advance/$25 onsite, or $50 advance/$70 onsite for the series.
EX•TRACTS also will offer retailers a series of onsite amenities throughout each of the four show days, including: Complimentary beverages and culinary treats. Retailers can “start their day” at the Metropolitan Pavilion with a free continental breakfast served daily from 9:00-10:00am, courtesy of GLM. Complimentary acupressure facial-lift massages. Retailers can rejuvenate in the EX•TRACTS Spa with a gentle, 10-minute pressure-point massages for the face, neck and shoulders, daily from 11:00am-1:00pm, sponsored by exhibitor She Essential Beauty; and Complimentary massages. Retailers can revive in the EX•TRACTS Spa located in the Metropolitan Pavilion with a rejuvenating 10-minute massage hosted by Oasis Day Spa, daily from 2:00 – 4:00pm, courtesy of GLM.
The 22nd semi-annual edition of EX•TRACTS will run Sunday, August 12, through Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at New York City’s Metropolitan Pavilion. Some 75 companies, featuring cosmetics, perfumes, skincare, bath & body care, beauty accessories, hair care, natural/organic products and well-being lines are expected to participate. Some 5,000 spa, salon and specialty retailers are expected to attend.
EX•TRACTS will continue to be co-located with the New York’s Newest division of the New York International Gift Fair® at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Some 140 exhibitors will be featured in New York’s Newest, which serves as the “launching pad” for companies new to the New York International Gift Fair. Together, EX•TRACTS and the New York International Gift Fair – at the Javits Center, Passenger Ship Terminal Piers and Metropolitan Pavilion – will present some 2,800 exhibitors and will attract some 43,000 buyers from around the world.
