Campaign to Boycott 40th IFRA Amendment

Cropwatch As many are commenting in industry, much of the aroma trade seems to be relocating to India, China, Indonesia etc. and deserting Europe. Part of the reason is the hostile environment that Brussels legislators have made for the cosmetics industry, unfortunately with the complicit technical assistance of several subjugated cosmetic/aroma ingredient trade & professional associations.

Several manufacturers of natural raw material commodities are quietly angry that their livelihoods are threatened, as usage volumes of natural aromatic ingredients decline via the effects of the EU's progressive restrictive cosmetics legislation. Some of these producers have approached Cropwatch for technical help to try to save their industries. End-users of cosmetic, perfume & essential oil based products too are wondering why they do not have a say in this seemingly warped system of law-making, where dermatologists, lawyers and university professors with no cosmetics experience are so influential.

The way the regulatory direction is heading, we are looking towards a synthetic future for the fragrance industry, and Cropwatch is making some last ditch attempts to halt the discrimination again natural ingredients. And we have made a difference already - according to private correspondence with the Head of the EU Cosmetics Unit, Mrs Sabine Lecrenier, Cropwatch has already been influential in a number of areas. Please help us to become even more successful by opposing the 40th Amendment to IFRA's Code of Practice (see explanatory pdf attached). We are particularly appealing to Perfumers & Natural Perfumers to boycott all IFRA Amendments after the 39th - on the grounds that Perfumery & especially Natural Perfumery has been made pretty well impossible anyway by the combined efforts of IFRA & the SCCP, without any further intrusive & incredibly complex red-tape of this kind.

Perfumery used to be a high art form, not an opportunity for career toxicologists to wreck an industry in the name of the 'precautionary principle'. Please help us return to these former times.
