USDA Funded Reimbursement Program for Exporting Agriculturally Derived Personal Care, Home Interior and Industrial Products

The Alabama International Trade Center, located on the University of Alabama campus, is contacting companies who produce agriculturally derived non-food products. The Trade Center is contacting companies in order to inform them that they may be eligile for a marketing reimbursement program administered by the regional trade groups. Some eligible expenses include approved domestic trade shows, international trade shows, international trade show travel, printed sales material, and advertising.

In order to qualify for the program companies must meet certain criteria. The most important criterion is that finished products be made of 50% or greater US-grown agricultural goods. The products must also be labeled as "Made in the USA" and have a brand name. The companies themselves must be incorporated in the United States, have total sales greater than $100,000 during the previous year, have a steady supply as to not interrupt product exports, and total employment may not exceed 500 employees for manufacturers (no size limits on cooperatives).

The personal care, home interior and industrial products sectors are several areas specifically targeted for the program. Examples of potential personal care products include but are not limited to: skin care, baby care, lotions, hair care, moisturizers, bar and liquid soaps, toothpastes, cosmetics, bath salts, and other toiletries. Qualifying inputs include but are not limited to: beeswax, cocoa, glycerin, lavender, miscellaneous herbs, milk, soy, vegetable oils.

Examples of potential home interior products include but are not limited to: paint & wall finishes, wallpaper, adhesives, household cleaners and candles. Qualifying inputs include but are not limited to: wheat straw, bamboo, linseed, beeswax, soy, vegetable wax, and casein milk solids.

Examples of potential industrial products include but are not limited to: cleaning and degreasing products, lubricant oils, industrial waxes, and industrial coatings. Qualifying inputs include but are not limited to: animal and vegetable based oils, soy, corn and plant extracts.
